NEW COURSE FOR GAMES
Estuary Talks Proposed
A meeting of the Canterburv Bowins Association last even ing agreed to write to the City Council asking it to call a meeting of all those Interested in the estuary to see what ean be done to make it suitable as an Empire Games venue. The council is shortly to take over control of the estuary from the Marine Department The president <Mr B R Walker) said it was unlikely the games would come to lhe Southern hemisphere in 1970. He suggested 1974 was more and Christchurch should be well-prepared to make Its bid.
He had gone Into the matter of dredging a rowing course—a good site would be along the spit side—and it would require about £3OOO for a course a mile and a quarter long. It was likely that the assorts, tlon would have to raise about
£1500—4500 for each of its rowers In the training squad—to send them to Tokyo. Mr A. H. Could said. He was ap--1 pointed convener of a finance sub-committee.
