NEW YOUTH HOSTELS
Three Planned In Canterbury
Three new youth hostels are planned for Canterbury in the near future, says the North Canterbury Youth Hostel Association’s bulletin. Membership has risen by 200 in the last month. The fund for the Akaroa hostel has risen to £1134, and the association is looking for a site. In Hanmer Springs, where the next hostel will be, residents are looking for a site.
Preliminary plans are being made for a new 60 to 70-bed hostel, which will serve as a headquarters for the branch in Christchurch as well as for visitors to the city.
Extensions will be built to the hostel at Kaikoura. The association is making plans to raise funds for the projects. On August 23, at least 100 members are wanted to clean Lancaster Park. In September, a stall will be organised at New Brighton.
