PAY BANK SOLD
Pay Bank was bought on Saturday by Mr J. Weller, and ha., joined W. Turner’s stable at Washdyke' This three-year-old Dogger Bank gelding won for his Blenheim owners, Mr. and Mrs R. A. White, at the Marlborough Racing Club’s meeting in the autumn. He was trained at Riccarton by G. H. Murfitt Junr.
N. Eastwood Tq Ride Shakes
N. Eastwood has been engaged to ride Shakes in the Whyte Handicap at Trentham. Shakes started his winter racing with a fifth in the Donald Grant Memorial at Washdyke on Saturday and he should be right at his best for his Trentham campaign. He has been placed on each of his two previous winter campaigns at Trentham. Mali Peter beat him narrowly two years ago, and Lei beat him in a hack sprint last year. This season Shakes has won five races, all on his home track. They include the Great Easter, Jockey Club, Templeton and August Handicaps.
Beau Tirage Runs Second (N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY, June 27. The New Zealand horse. Beau Tirage, was beaten into second place in the McKell Cup over a mile and a half at Rosehill today. Beau Tirage, the 3/1 favourite, was beaten by four lengths by Olympus (11/2) with Mr Iceman (4/1) a neck away third. • Beau Tirage, jn the middle of the field early, took the lead at the top of the straight but could not match the fine finish of Olvmpus which went on to win easily. Mr Iceman also came home well and just failed to take second place.
