FLIGHTS TO BERLIN
Safe Arrival By Pan Am
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) BERLIN, June 25. A Pan American jet airliner from New York arrived in-Berlin yesterday ahead of time and without incidents in • spite of Russian and East German warnings that these flights were “unlawful”, a spokesman for the airway said.
The Soviet Union has protested to the United States against the new direct air service between Berlin and New York, and the East German Government stated it could not guarantee the safety of these flights. Both claimed that the thrice-weekly service, introduced on May 31, violated East German air space since it- did riot have the consent of the East German authorities.
The Western allies maintain that no East German approval was called for since they hold the Soviet Union fully responsible for traffic in the three air corridors linking West Berlin' with West Germany over East German territory.
