MINOR FIRES
The Christchurch Fire Brigade had received no fire calls for 72 hours at 4 p.m. yesterday. Four calls, all to minor fires, were received within the next three hours. ■At 4.11 p.m., St Albans firemen were called to a chimney fire in the home of Mrs M. Purcell, 80 Thames street. At 6.22 p.m., two engines from the New Brighton volunteer brigade and one from Headquarters station were sent to a fire in the flooring of Mr N. W. Rolley's house, 48 Tonks street. The fire, near a hearth, caused only slight damage. At 6.33 p.m., Sydenham firemen were called to an oven fire in the home of Mr P. McGrath, 107 Wordsworth street A fire in a detached shed at the home of Mrs M. Moore, 38 Buchan street caused only slight damage. Two engines from the Sydenham station answered the call.
