Flying Lancer In Good Trial

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, June 25. The veteran, Flying Lancer, recorded a good trial for the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday when he ran half a mile in 48 3-ssec at Washdyke this morning.

The time was equalled by Vienna Woods, which is in the same event on Saturday as Flying Lancer, the Kingsdown Intermediate, and Wycola, which is to run in the Beaconsfield Improvers’. . Flying Lancer was more impressive than the other two. He carried a much heavier weight and worked with more dash. If the track remains in the same condition as it was for today’s trials, fast times should be recorded on Saturday. Most of the work this morning was done on the plough.

Flying Lancer (G. Styles) worked by himself completing half a mile in 48 3-ssec under a good hold. Wycola (J. M. Cappie) equalled the time as did Vienna Woods (D. Cameron),

Another good trial was by the maiden, William Robert (Cappie) which recorded 48 4-ssec for the same distance. William Robert started about two lengths behind the open class winner Morris Francis (Styles), but at the finish was under a good hold to be the same distance in front of him.

Dawsac (C. L. Reeves) and Side Saddle (Cappie) worked together for the first furlong of three, but Dawsac drew right away to beat the other by three lengths in 35sec. Star Quality (B. F. Winsloe) showed he was still in good form by running two rounds of the track and coming home the last three in 36 2-ssec. He was galloping easily over the concluding stages.

The maidens. They Told Me and Morrisy worked attractively over five furlongs in imin 3 3-ssec. The last three took them 37 3-ssec. Other half-mile trials were by Lovely Day (Winsloe) and Cranbrook (Styles) which ran easily over the distance in 56 2-ssec, and Avast, which recorded 51sec.

The best six of the morning was recorded by the

jumpers, Night Sock and Regal Order. Night Sock (O. M. Anning) jumped four trial brushes well before joining Regal Order (E. P. Corbey). They ran the six furlongs in Imin 19sec.

The only candidate for next week’s Wellington meeting to work was Knight, which was not impressive in running the last six of a round in Imin 31sec. He appeared to be favouring a bandaged leg. Knight ran his trial on the course proper about 30 feet out as did Great Guns (Cappie), which recorded imin 25 2-ssec for six, the last three in 41sec.

Magic Circle (Corboy) did the last six of a round in Imin 21 2-ssec, the last three in 41 2-ssec.

Rhythm Rein (Styles) and Timna (K. C. Thompson) rah a mile in Imin 42sec, the last three in 38sec. Rhythm Rein worked on the outside of Timna and looked the more impressive.

Napoleon Bonaparte (Styles) and Interlaken (Thompson) came the last mile of two rounds in Imin 46 2-ssec, the last half in 52$ec.
