Absent From School, Prosecutions Likely

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, June 25. The Auckland Education Department will prosecute the parents of dozens of Auckland children who flocked into the city today to see the Beatles.

Headmasters and board officials became alarmed at the number of children illegally absent from school this morning. Board attendance officers went into the city and found many of the missing children. A board official, Mr M. J. Somerville, said that the officers had taken the names of many children. They recommended the

the board to prosecute the parents under the school attendance regulations.

The police are also reported to have taken the names of school-age children seen in the city. Many of the children interviewed by attendance officers were outside the hotel where the Beatles are staying. Mr Sommervilie said the board was particularly disturbed about the statement by one child on the radio last evening that his parents had given him permission to be absent from school to see the Beatles.
