MALAYSIAN FORCES

Helicopters For Troops

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, June 25. British and Malaysian security forces In North Borneo are planning more aggressive operations against, the Indonesian guerrilla forces on the Malaysian borders, “The Times” says.

Infantry battalions operating in the jungle are to be equipped with a new light helicopter to improve their mobility and fire power. The Malaysian Government has rejected suggestions canvassed in some quarters that the war should be carried Into Indonesian territory by air bombardment or deep penetration patrols. On the other hand, artillery may be used to shell guerrilla bases and, as far as the infantry are concerned, it is unlikely that border formalities will be too punctiliously observed by patrols seeking detailed intelligence about enemy dispositions.” It is planned to supplement machine-guns in helicopters with rocket and guided missiles later.

From Kuching, it is reported that a patrol of the 4th Royal Malay Regiment yesterday killed two members of a seven-man armed and uniformed Indonesian terrorist gang in a clash near Terbat Bazaar.
