DIVIDEND IN PARCEL
Lost Ticket Pays £133
(N.Z. Press Association)
NELSON, June 19.
A parcel "bombshell” flattened Mr H. Greenfield, proprietor of Nelson’s Hotel Midland,, this morning.
But there was no need to call the police. The parcel contained £133—26 £5 notes, and three singles. And it restored Mr Greenfield’s faith in humanity. On June 6 Mr Greenfield had a 5s ticket on the double on the first day of the Nelson Trotting Club’s winter meeting. He discarded some tickets before the second leg was run, and the winning ticket was among them.
The next week it was found the ticket must have been cashed on the day of the double and Mr Greenfield lost hope of recovering his loss.
The small parcel gave no clue as to the identity of the Sender. The sum of £25 was deducted from the dividend to allow for the reward offered by Mr Greenfield.
