BUILDING PERMITS
Rise In N.Z. Value
The 21,000 houses and flats completed in the year ended March 31 last were 1000 fewer than the previous year, but there was an increase of 1127, or 5.5 per cent, in the number of building permits issued, says the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker).
The value of building permits for houses and flats rose by £5,278,703 on the previous year’s figures. For other new buildings there were 223 more permits, worth £2,191,110, issued. The total value of all building permits issued in New Zealand was £147,276,958, an increase of 7.4 per cent on the previous year.. Government building activities not subject to permit requirements are Included in the total figure, but construction such as roads and bridges is not included.
