New Brighton Pier

Sir, —It is grand to learn that the New Brighton pier is to be restored. The figure of £17,500 accepted by the pier committee as the cost of complete restoration is a substantial one, but it is believed that many people are willing to support the restoration scheme. The committee has planned boldly and with remarkable foresight for the benefit of all who visit New Brighton over the next 40 years. With the great future development of New Brighton and the establishment of the new motor hotel in Pages road, it is expected that this area l will soon become one of the best tourist attractions in New Zealand. We can but hope that the City Council will support the restoration of the pier.—-Yours, etc., A. WALKER. June 19, 1964.
