N.Z. Lamb Prices Steady In U.K.
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P A.) LONDON, June 17. Prices for New Zealand lamb remain steady with a firm background, say Smithfield reports. “Two’s” continue to fetch 2s 3d a pound wholesale, “which is a very good price.” Housewives are beginning to buy beef again after the spate of publicity about high prices. Consignments of New Zealand chilled beef have been sold quickly at prices equal to those for best Argentinian chilled beef. Business Personal Mr P. S. Ferens has been appointed manager of the agricultural chemical sales division of Ivon-Watkins-Dow Ltd. Mr Ferens, whp has been with the company for 13 years, gained his agrcultural qualifications at Lincoln College and the University of West Indies, Trinidad. He has been an executive member of the New Zealand Weed and Pest Control Conference for 12 years and was president in 1957 and 1958. He replaces Mr L. R. Harland.
