NURSES’ BALL

Hospital Life Cartoons

The Student Nurses’ Association held its annual ball in the Winter Garden last evening. Comic posters about hospital life, complete with Dr. Kildare and Dr. Gillespie, were features of the decor.

Among those specially invited were Mrs M. Chambers (matron in chief), Miss D. R. Newman (matron), Dr. L. McH. Berry (medical superintendent in chief) and Mrs Berry.

Mrs Chambers wore a gown of EaU de nil and gold rose-patterned brocade, with a scooped neckline, and a deep pleat in the back of the sheath skirt, giving the effect of a floating panel. Miss Newman chose a gown of forest-green slipper satin, featuring a draped bodice and a softly gathered panel falling from the shoulder to the hemline.

Mrs Berry wore a strapless gown of cream and gold brocade, with a full skirt. Traditional jazz music was provided by the University Trad Band.

N.C.W. Vice-Presidents.— Mesdames C. J. Ashley and D. G. McFadden have been elected vice-presidents of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women. This was announced by the president (Miss M. E. Saunders) at a branch meeting last evening.
