PENSIONS BASIS
Examination Urged (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, June 17. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nordmeyer) tonight called for an examination of pensions for aged single persons. Speaking in the Address-in-Reply debate, he. suggested the Government should adopt a measure to do better by people living alone. In New Zealand a mayried couple received twice the amount paid to a single person, but in Holland a single person received about 80 per cent, of the amount given a married couple. Mr Nordmeyer said £5 was pitifully inadequate to meet the needs of a New Zealand pensioner.
