Governor In Bed With Influenza
(New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, June.l7. The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) is ill with influenza, and on medical advice he will remain in bed at least until Friday.
Sir Bernard Fergusson was visited by Dr. R. D. King, a former honorary physician to the Queen, at his hotel in Timaru early today, but fulfilled engagements at Pleasant Point and Temuka. Shortly after 5 pm, Dr. King again attended the GovernorGeneral, who by then had a high temperature. At both Pleasant Point and Temuka, Sir Bernard Fergus son had spoken only briefly,
and said he was in danger of losing his voice. At tonight’s civic reception in the Theatre Royal, Timaru, Lady Fergusson deputised for her husband, and as far as possible she will deputise for him at tomorrow’s functions in South Canterbury. Because of his commitments in Wellington next week, Sir Bernard Fergusson will not be able to extend his Timaru visit.
