BUSINESS SURVEY
Sales Show Increase A summary of quarterly business surveys of industries in New Zealand for the last three years, was discussed at the monthly meeting of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association last evening. The summary showed that sales in 1962 varied in each quarter between plus 2 per cent and plus 3 per cent. In the 1963 quarters they varied from plus 7 per cent to 10 per cent and the March quarter in 1964 was plus 10 per cent. Forward orders showed minus 2 per cent to 3 per cent in 1962 and plus 4 per cent to 10 per cent in 1963. In the March quarter, of 1964, they were plus 6 per cent. Overtime in 1962 was minus 2 per cent to 5 per cent; in 1963, plus 3 per cent to 4 per cent, and in the 1964 quarter, plus 2 per cent. Staff employed showed, a buoyant movement from 1963 at plus 1 per cent up to plus 4 per cent in 1964.
