FINE FOR RIDER

Took Wrong Course (N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, ■ June 15. J. T. Shaw, the rider of Strydom, was charged under rule 205 (M) and (1) with having taken the wrong course after having jumped the first fence in the Manawatu Steeplechase today. The judicial committee heard evidence from Mr G. R. Tattersall, the assistant stipendiary steward/ and statements from two employees of the club stationed by the entrance to the steeplechase course. A statement was made by Shaw in which he claimed that Strydom had run off and that he was unable to prevent the occurrence.

After considering the evidence, the judicial committee was of the opinion that Shaw had taken the wrong course. J They did find that the occurrence was due to carelessness and was not wilful and imposed a fine of £l5.

At this part of the race the riders leave the course proper to go into the inside steeplechase course where two fences are jumped.
