Stabbing Sequel To Chess Argument

(New Zealand Press Association) • AUCKLAND, June 15. • A disagreement with an opponent over the outcome of a chess game led to a stabbing affray in the Paris Boulevard coffee lounge last month, said the proprietor, Aron Antal, today during the hearing of a charge against Bogosav Bozinovitch, aged 41, ‘ a barmanporter, a native of Jugoslavia.

Bozinovitch pleaded not guilty to the charge that on May 23, with reckless disregard for the safety of others, he injured. Antal. Mr H. M. Israel and Mr R. S. McMillan, J.P.’s committed him to the Supreme Court for trial. . Antal said the incident arose over X chess game between him and Bozinovitch about six weeks previously. That night Bozinovitch came into' the lounge and on several occasions asserted he won the game. “I claimed it was a draw,” said Antal. “I was willing to bet £lO to £1 because I was so sure.” Antal said about midnight he was at a table having dinner when Bozinovitch came up agajn. Bozinovitch pushed him in the face and he fell

to the floor. They fought and were parted by others. The fight continued in the car dock, then Antal went to the kitchen to wash his hands. About 15 minutes later he went out behind the counter. Bozinovitch was there with a knife. Antal started to go outside but he tripped over steps leading to the stage. Fracas In Cafe “Bozinovitch pushed the knife into my armpit twice,” said Antal. “I pushed him in the face with my foot. Someone hit Bozinovitch with a bottle. “I went behind the counter. Bozinovitch was absolutely mad. He broke the thick plateglass on the counter with his hand. I hit him with an empty soft-drink home. Others hit him with cups and saucers.” Antal said he ran into a cloakroom and held the door. Bozinovitch tried to push it open. It was then the police arrived. A constable, Thomas Barry Wallace, said he recovered the knife from the floor of the lounge.' The blade was bent. Bozinovitch had to be strapped to a stretcher.
