ROADING FUNDS

Separation Of Account

Complete exclusion of the National Roads Board account from the public account is to be sought by the South Island Motor Union.

Its executive decided yesterday to urge the North Island Motor Union to consider the matter.

The S.I.M.U. wants a joint approach to the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake) and the Minister of Works (Mr AL len). As well as asking for exclusion of the National Roads Board account, the unions will bring up three other questions:— Exemptions from fiscal tax on petrol, additional representation of private motorists on the roads board, and the annual balance date of roads board funds. Mr T. E. V. Turpin said the roads board account was a “user pays” account like the broadcasting account, and, like it, should be completely separate - from the public account.
