Figures in the latest Abstract of Statistics show that during 1962-63. New Zealanders drank 14.6 per cent more wine than in the previous year. To keep up with the increasing demand, winemakers in 1963 put down 1,356,227 gallons of wine—lso,o2s gab ions more than in 1962. This 1963 supply included greater quantities of both dessert and table wines than previous supplies. The greatest rise in production during the 1962-63 period took place in the East Coast area. During this period 155 winemakers were operating in New Zealand, and 35 acres of vineyards were newly brought into cultivation.
