SHORTAGE OF HOPS

None In Shops In Auckland (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 29. A shortage of hops is affecting the output of Auckland’s backyard brewers. “There is not a pound of hops to be bought anywhere in Auckland,” said one retailer today. “We have had hundreds of inquiries, but cannot fill our orders.” He said he received half a dozen packets some months ago, but they disappeared before reaching the shelves. An executive of a large distributing organisation said the home brewing industry had been “dealt a body blow.” “We have not received any hops for 12 months,” he said. Brewery allocations have also been reduced.

A representative of a large Auckland concern said his company’s allocation had been further reduced this year after another cut last year.
