LONDON, May 29 With maximum output at the Dounreay experimental fast nuclear reactor in Scotland reaching 60 heat megawatts. the £2Bm plant is now established as the most rowerful source of fast neurons in the world. According to scientists at he establishment, Dounreay : the only fast reactor in the orld working at full power. : is two years ahead of plant n Russia and the United itates.
By the end of September it > hoped that a fuel element nil have been developed capble of working in a fast reictor at very high temperatures. The way will then be pen for the erection of a prootype which is to be built lefore the first British comnercial fast reactor. Work on the prototype is expected to take about five rears at a cost of £2om. Exeriments are now going on t Dounreay to establish that uel can be developed to withtand sufficiently long periods f irradiation.
