By the end of September it > hoped that a fuel element nil have been developed capble of working in a fast reictor at very high temperatures. The way will then be pen for the erection of a prootype which is to be built lefore the first British comnercial fast reactor. Work on the prototype is expected to take about five rears at a cost of £2om. Exeriments are now going on t Dounreay to establish that uel can be developed to withtand sufficiently long periods f irradiation.
