QUEENS COUNSEL

Mr R. B. Cooke Appointed

WELLINGTON, May 29.

Mr R. B. Cooke, of Wellington, has been appointed Queen's Counsel. The appointment was announced today by the Attorney-General (Mr Hanan). The son of the late Mr Justice Cooke, the new Queen’s Counsel was born in Wellington and educated at Wanganui Collegiate School and Victoria University. He graduated master of laws with first class honours in 1950 and was awarded a senior scholarship and a travelling scholarship ii law, which he took up at Cambridge University. There he graduated M.A. and Ph.D, was awarded the Yorks Prize in 1954, and was elected a fellow of Caius College. Mr Cooke was called to the bar in England by the Inner Temple. Since his return to I New Zealand, he has practised I in Wellington as a barrister.
