GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE

The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Fergusson, has sent from Christchurch the following message to the President of the Republic of India: “May I offer the heartfelt sympathy of my wife and myself to you and to the family of Jawaharlal Nehru on his sudden death. “I recall with pleasure a long talk with him in Delhi in 1960 and meeting him again in London in 1962, and mourn with you the loss of this world figure who has done so much for his people and the cause of peace and freedom.” “There was no man for whom I had greater respect,” said the former New Zealand-, Prime Minister, Mr Nash, in Wellington yesterday. Mr Nash said he had sat with Mr Nehru at conference tables in London, at the United Nations and in Delhi and no-one had impressed him more.
