RENUNCIATION OF TITLE
Earl To Make Statement (X.Z.P.A.-Reuter-—Copyright) LONDON, May 26. The Earl of Sandwich, who, as Viscount Hinchingbrooke, "as M.P. for South Dorset for 31 years, tonight confirmed reports that he is considering renouncing his peerage to seek re-election to the Hous? of Commons. “If I get summoned for an interview in connexion with the test division and find myself on the short list I small probably make a statement about my title. In any case, I shall make an announcement in about four weeks’ time,” Lord Sandwich said. As a commoner, the Earl of Sandwich would become Mr Alexander Montagu. He was 58 this month. The “closing date” for renouncing titles under the Peerage Act is July 31.
