FILMS OF N.Z. LIFE
Distribution To U.K. Schools (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, May 26. British schoolchildren are learning about New Zealand from films made by the National Film Unit and distributed to schools throughout Britain by the public relations branch of New Zealand House. For the first three months of this year 775 films were sent to schools, an increase of 50 per cent on the figure for the same months in 1962. A further steady rise is expected. The most popular films have been about the country and New Zealand’s way of life as a whole. Films on farming are also popular. Others sought after have been “A Hundred Crowded Years,” made in 1940, “Thermal Wonderland,” and “Volcanic Power.”
Mountaineers Die. Two West German mountaineers died after being attacked by high altitude sickness during an assault on the 26.750 ft Cho Oyu peak in the Himalayas early this month, the expedition leader, Rudi Rott, said last night—Katmandu, May 25.
