Tour Confusion “Surprise” To N.Z. Body

The New Zealand soccer council is as much surprised as the Canterbury Football Association by the “on-again, off-again” tour by Munster, the West German club.

The Canterbury president (Mr J. Smith) told the management committee last evening that the council received a telegram from T.EA.L, saying that Munster was not coming until May 28 and that it would arrive in Auckland. The council was looking into the telegram and would send a report to Canterbury. Members said they thought a game was arranged in Australia and Mr Smith said that Mr Willi Treml, the promoter of the tour, thought so too. But when he arrived there, he was told there was no match at that time but to

stay—and play one the next week. However, Mr Treml felt he had an obligation to come to New Zealand. He did not know of the telegram either. “Made To Look Goats” “This doesn’t happen in Rugby, Rugby League and hockey,” said Mr P. W. L. George. Mr T. C, Gottermeyer; We’ve been made to look goats. “I’m just as upset as you are,” said Mr Smith, “but those other sports are different. Their tours are not arranged by a promoter. “But no other sports have

done what the New Zealand council did this year—sent a team round the world.

“I agree that these things should be tied up but the promoter is governed by the airways.”
