ASIA MINOR AND CHESTERFIELD

Interesting Clash At Addington Today

The meeting between two smart trotters in Asia Minor and Chesterfield in the Peninsula Handicap will be one of the highlights of the Canterbury 7 Park Club’s winter meeting at Addington Raceway 7 today. Asia Minor has had four wins and six placings from 15 starts this season, while Chesterfield has had seven starts for three wins and two placings.

Neither horse has raced since March 28 when Asia Minor, from the limit, beat Minnow and Chesterfield in the two-mile Wilkins Handicap. Asia Minor meets Chesterfield on 21 yards worse terms today, but this should not stop the fine young trotter from coming out on top once again. Asia Minor looked in great heart when he raced at the recent Addington trials.

A win for the Greymouthowned and trained Chesterfield would be well received. He came into prominence less than 12 months ago, and but for an accident in November he would have graduated to the top trotting company before now. He stays well and is certain to give a good account of himself. Dreaming has been out of form for some time, but one of her peak efforts would give her a chance of upsetting calculations. She is strong in stamina, and will only have to trot solidly to be a threat to the morefavoured candidates.

Ali Bey has been a costly failure in recent months. At times he has looked to be above average in ability, but his recent efforts have been well below his best. He is best served in two-mile races and will have the distance to suit today.

Medieval and Snow Globe have shown to advantage in much stronger company than they will encounter in this race- Both are fit horses and they could add interest to the finish.

A win for any of the others would be a major upset, and the pick of them could be Fiammetta and Grand Charge. The double will be run on the Canterbury Park Free-for-AH and the May Stakes. Robert Medoro, Our Own, and Front Line form a likely trio for the first leg, in which the chances of Harbour Light, Minnow and Control are highly rated. Soanfra, Ahumai, and Dark Louise stand out in the second leg, although there is certain to be solid support for the southerner, Belle Vue. Fine weather is forecast, and the track should be in good order.
