AVIEMORE MEETING

Mr Swan To Attend

About 30 of the men working on the diversion tunnel contract at Aviemore met last evening of their own accord (they emphasised that no union was involved) to consider future supervision of their interests.

Afterwards they announced that they had arranged for Mr L. B. Swan, secretary of the Otago Labourers’ Union, to meet all men on the job at 8 a.m. on Monday. A spokesman said that Mr Swan would simply address the men without any prejudice to their rights to consider their future union affiliations, after yesterday’s announcement by the New Zealand Wprkers’ Union that Aviemore workers had little to gain by remaining members of that union.
