AUCTIONEER GUILTY
Failed To Pay All Proceeds (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 22. Trevor Kenneth Findlay, aged 39, an auctioneer, was found guilty by a jury today in the Supreme Court at Wellington on a charge of theft by failing to account. He was remanded for sentence by Mr Justice Tompkins.
Prosecuting, Mr J. H. C. Larsen said Findlay maintained an auction mart in Upper Hutt. A man named Lock took a piano to the mart at the end of February and asked Findlay to sell it on his behalf. A reserve of £5O was put upon the piano.
Another man named White had agreed to buy the piano and, after being told by Findlay the price was £65, had paid this sum by cheque. Findlay had informed Lock the piano was sold for £57 10s and that from that amount he had deducted a commission of £7 10s and mailed him a cheque for £5O. Findlay went on to say that he had asked for £6O. that he had received an offer of £55 and that he had split the difference, making it £57 10s, said Mr Larsen.
