Mrs Marsh, formerly Miss Mary Schimanski, was born in Taranaki and her parents moved to Christchurch when she was three, and later to Kaiapoi. Mr Marsh was born at Kaiapoi and lived across the road from his wife before they were married. A keen fisherman, Mr Marsh won the cup for the best trout caught in the district last year. He considers this season’s achievement a better one when he caught 91 fish.

Mr and Mrs Marsh, now retired from farming, have four married daughters, 21 grandchildren (two of whom are married) and three greatgrandchildren. Relatives came from as far as Dunedin and Auckland to attend the golden wedding celebrations.
