MUSEUM AT AKAROA
Furnishing Plans
An additional grant of £5OO has been made by the Historic Places Trust for the furnishing of the Langlois Eteveneaux Cottage at Akaroa as a historic house museum.
The Director of the Canterbury Museum (Dr R. S. Duff) told his board that Miss Rose Reynolds and Mr J A. Hendry would be able to proceed with plans to furnish “this graceful reminder of the French settlement at Akaroa.”
The grant also provided for the construction of a special kitchen alcove in the adjacent Akaroa Museum, and It was expected that there would be a ready public response to the appeal issued by the Akaroa committee for kitchen relics of both French and British settlers of Banks Peninsula. .. Other sections of the museum display, where the Canterbury Museum will be responsible for the case construction and supervising installation, will include whaling, military costume and firearms, period costume, china and fine arts, relics of the Maori occupation of the peninsula and early maps, and charts, sketches, and photographs. The museum workshop is making good progress with the show cases. When completed as many displays as possible will be planned and assembled in the Canterbury Museum before transfer to Akaroa,
Telegraph Delay. Telegraph traffic to and from Israel is subject to delay, owing to staff difficulties in that country, the chief postmaster in Wellington (Mr B. J. Mclvor) said yesterday (P.A.)
