U.S. JETS IN LAOS
(N Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) WASHINGTON, May 22. United States jet reconnaissance planes were flying missions over Laos to help the neutralist Government gather information on the “intentions and dispositions” of attacking Communist forces, the State Department said yesterday.
A department press officer, Mr Robert McCloskey, said the missions were being flown at the request of the Royal Lao Government.
They had been authorised because of the “current inability” of the three-nation control commission which was supposed to police the Geneva agreement on Laos “to obtain adequate information.”
