Khrushchev Urges Arabs To Unite
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright)
C AIRO, May 21. Mr Khrushchev said last night that imperialism feared Arab unity because it -was easier for Imperialism to fight Arab states separately. The Soviet Prime Minister, speaking impromptu at the end of a set speech i to a trade union meeting, added: “This is- why the imperialists are stationed in Kuwait.. Imperialists give bribes to the rulers there so that their consciences should not bother them.” He said to the cheering audience: “Are the British interested in Aden for Aden’s sake? No, they Only like the petrol wealth in the country.” Mr Khrushchev said the British maintained they Were in Aden in accordance with agreements. But an agreement with imperialism was like an agreement with a mad man holding a noose in his hand. The imperialists had divided the Arabs in order to “rob you one by one,” he said. Arab countries were rich in natural resources but in fact they were weak and poor because of “imperialism.”
Mr Khrushchev said the
Soviet Union was a “tremendous force.” If the strength of the Arab people was added to it “then we can defeat any force in the world.” He said the Arabs had plenty of petroleum, but did not possess it, and had plenty of metals and iron ores, but it was not theirs. Had the Arabs been united “it would have been more difficult for them to cut you with scissors.” The Soviet Union believed it would be a great success for the Arabs if they united in a big powerful nation, he said.
