ABORIGINAL RIGHTS
Restrictions Lifted (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) DARWIN, May 21. All remaining restrictions on the lives of Northern Territory aboriginals are to be lifted under legislation passed in Darwin today. The Northern Territory Legislative Council agreed to the Social Welfare Bill, under which they will be given equal rights with all other citizens. The concept of wardship, which had been in force since 1953, is removed. All the territory’s 19,000 natives who are not already citizens with equal rights will become so as soon as the legislation receives Vice-Regal assent.
