Malaysia Lull ‘About To End’
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, May 21. The current lull in the Malaysia-Indonesia border war will “end at any moment now,” the director of Malaysia British operations (Major-General W. C. Walker) said in Kuching, Sarawak, yesterday, according to the “Straits Times.”
The Kuala Lumpur Englishlanguage daily quoted General Walker as saying in an interview “there is absolutely no doubt that the Indonesians have spent the last month regrouping their forces while at the same time launching pin-prick incursions against us.” He expected better-organised operations by the Indonesians from now on. Borneo Base Indonesian operations w'ere being directed from a base inside Indonesian Borneo, General Walker said, according to the “Straits Times.” Until now the Indonesian raiding bands had been made up principally of volunteers, who were poor fighters. As a result they had been badly mauled by security forces inside Malaysian territory. “This must have worried President Sukarno a good deal. So in future the ratio of regular soldiers in their raiding forces will be much higher,” General Walker said, the newspaper reported.
