A car which has been parked for 15 days in a 60-minute parking zone has been attracting the amused attention of motorists who travel to and from work Mong Ferry road and High street.
The car, a 1954-model English saloon, has been parked on the south side of Ferry road near the junction of High street for the last 15 days.
Motorists who have recently received trafficoffence notices for parking over the limit are annoyed about the car owner’s apparent immunity, -There are no “stickers” on the car.
“Is 15 days in a 60minute parking zone a record' for Christchurch?” is the question being asked.
Twelve motorists have received parking-offence notices in the same area
in the last two days. Recently, the signs denoting the limited zone were switched from parallel to the kerb to right angles to it.
The car is outside a used-car dealer’s premises. A spokesman for the firm last evening said it was not the firm’s car. It had been sold tb a young man under a hirepurchase agreement The young man, dissatisfied with the. car, brought it back and demanded the return of his deposit A dispute developed.
“He was told that he left the car in the limit-ed-parking zone at his own risk. We cannot touch it until he is behind with payments,” the spokesman said.
He said that the ownership of the car could be “quite a legal point,” but it was clear that the young man was the driver of it.
