Statistician’s Report (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WELLINGTON, May 20. The Government is studying a report prepared by the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker) on the possible effects of stabilising the number of. Parliamentary seats in the South Island and increasing the number of North Island seats to keep pace with the increasing population of the North Island. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) tonight recalled that at the General Election the Government had promised to stabilise the South Island seats at 25 and the Labour Party had promised to stabilise them at 26. The present number is 24. Mr Holyoake said no study had yet been given to the effect of such a decision on how rapidly Parliament would grow in five or 10 year*

and it was necessary to lool? ahead from a statistical base.
