Instead of sending military aid to South Vietnam, New Zealand could express Its concern for the welfare of the Vietnamese better by extending technical aid, said the New Zealand Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in a statement yesterday. Mrs M. Woodward, the national secretary, said schools, hospitals and expert advisers were badly needed and New Zealand was in a position to help supply them. She said the organisation strenuously opposed any action by the New Zealand Government which might increase the risk of nuclear war, and it considered military aid to South Vietnam would involve just such a risk. "A letter has been sent to the Prime Minister expressing these views and asking most earnestly that the Government avoid sending military aid to South Vietnam, but Instead that it should take positive action through the United Nations and through technical aid.”
