BUILDING IN SQUARE

Objections Lodged Four objections have been made to the Christchurch City Council against the Christchurch Transport Board’s proposal to put a 218 ft parking building on its property in the south-east corner of Cathedral square. The height of the proposed building exceeds the maximum height of buildings permitted in commercial C zones under the council’s code of ordinances. The Transport Board intends to apply to the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board for content to depart from the City Council's district scheme. The Town Clerk (Mr C. S. Bowie) said yesterday that the objections would be considered by the district scheme panel of the council’s townplanning committee, probably within two or three weeks.
