Irish Tenor Returns
Patrick O’Hagan, the popular Irish tenor who plans to buy a pub in New Zealand when he retires, will be back in Christchurch for a concert on Monday evening. His retirement seems as far off as it was on his last visit. He has been touring Britain and the United States and conducting his own weekly television show in Ireland. He will leave New Zealand as the star artist in an all-Irish show that will make an extensive tour of the United States. For his concert in Christchurch Mr O’Hagan will sing a programme that includes a selection of Irish favourites, traditional English folk songs and some classical songs. His accompanist and associate artist, Oswald Cheesman, mil play works by Liszt, Debussy and Chopin.
Sir John Gielgud is giving eight recitals of Shakespeare’s “Seven Ages of Man” in Moscow and Leningrad this month.
