‘MAJOR’ DISCOVERY
Metal Stocks Rise (N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) TORONTO, April 17. There were wild scenes on the Toronto Stock Exchange yesterday following an announcement in New York of a “major discovery” by Texas Gulf Sulphur Company ■on its zinc-copper-silver- property at Kidd Township, north of Timmins, Ontario. More than 4m shares were traded during the first hour with the ticker running 13 minutes behind. The record number of shares for the first hour is 4,520,000. Mr Claude Stephens, president of Texas Gulf Sulphur, told a news conference in New York: “This is a major discovery. Preliminary data indicates a reserve of ’ more than 25m tons-of ore.”
