MR J. WHITE RESIGNS
Handicapper To 14 Clubs “The Press’’ Special Service DUNEDIN, April 19. Sir J. A- White, jun., of Winga. tui, who has been a handicapper In Otago and Southland for 25 years, has resigned from all his 14 appointments. His resignation was announced at a function after the last race at the Southland Racing Club’s meeting at Invercargill on Saturday.
Mr White’s first position was with the now defunct Otautau Racing Club In 1939, when he was still in his teens. The same year he was appointed handicapper for the Beaumont Racing Club and the Tuapeka ■ Jockey Club.
The high standard of work and his sincerity was acknowledged by other racing clubs in Otago and Southland and he was appointed handicapper to the Dunedin Jockey Club, the Southland Racing Club, the Riverton, Racing Club, the Gore Racing Club, the Wyndham Racing Club, the Winton Jockey Club, the Cromwell Jockey Club, the Vincent Jockey Club, the Tapanui Racing Club, the Walrio Jockey Club, the Otago Hunt, the Birchwood Htmt and the Eastern Southland .Hunt, Mr White’s duties will cease after the Dunedin Jockey Club’s winter meeting during May and June.
