GIRL STOLE WINE
Broke Window In Shop (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 18. A smash and grab theft from a Petone wine shop led to the appearance of a 20-year-old girl in the Lower Hutt Magistrate’s Court today. Before Mr J. F. Keane, S.M., Maureen Lillian Black, machinist, pleaded guilty to wilfully damaging a £35 plate glass window of a Petone wide and spirits shop, and theft of a bottle of wine valued at £1 Is from the shop. She was remanded on bail to April 24 for a probation officer’s report and sentence. Senior-Sergeant G. Waple said at 11 p.m. yesterday. Black left a party and went for a walk along Jackson street. She saw several assorted bottles of wine in a shop window, and thought she would like a drink. She picked up an empty bottle, struck the plate glass window twice, smashing it, and stole a bottle of wine, which she then took back to the party.
