MALVERN GAMES
Champion Side Beaten Darfield. last year’s champion, was beaten by Hororata, 6-3. when the Malvern Rugby Subassociation's club matches began on Saturday. In the early game Kirwee beat Black Diamonds. 6-3. A feature of the games was the manner in which the referees, Messrs R. Stevenson and R. Henderson, carried out the new rulings. The main game was even throughout, with each team gaining temporary ascendancy. Constant probings by fast forwards had both teams defending desperately at times. A lapse in Darfield’s defence allowed P. Shaw to score the only try Other .points came from penalty goals kicked by P Blakelv (Hororata) and A. Hopkinson (Darfield). the outstanding individual player in the game. Kirwee had slightly more of the ball in its match against Black Diamonds, and both teams Olayed bright football. After early tries by P. Pascoe (Kirwee) and C. Davidson (Black Diamonds). D. Eastmond kicked a penalty goal for Kirwee with time running out. •
