University's Day At Lancaster Park
It was University’s day at Lancaster Park on Saturday 7. The A team had a convincing win over New Brighton by 20 points to six and the B team surprised perhaps even its most ardent followers by beating Merivale, 25-11.
The Rugby at Lancaster Park was patchy. The first half of the University B-Merivale game contained some brilliant play but for the rest, there was some that was good, but often play was ragged and indecisive.
However, the new laws again provided some excellent back play and obviously most teams are now prepared to take advantage of the opportunities for running and passing the ball.
The suprise result of the j day was the draw between Old Boys and Christchurch: for Christchurch was much the favoured team. Lincoln College made a good come-back after its heavy first round defeat to beat Shirley. Results were:— University A 20, New Brighton 6. Old Boys 3, Christchurch 3. University B 25, Merivale 11. Linwood 8, Sydenham 6. 1
Lincoln College 26, Shirley 19. Suburbs 30, Belfast 3. Albion 9, Marist 5.
