Indoor Bowls SPREYDON PAIRS TOURNAMENT

L. Cheyne and Mrs Cheyne (St. Albans Recreation) won an indoor bowls pairs tournament from a field of 155 entries in a competition conducted by the Spreydon club at the week-end. In the final Cheyne and Mrs Cheyne beat W. Blackler and his mother, Mrs Blackler (Arawa), 8-7. Fifty-two pairs qualified for post-section play. There were many close contests and several extra ends had to be played. Cheyne, in fact, was held to a draw by D. Dunlop (New Brighton R.S.A.) in a quarter-final, but gained two points on the extra end. After six ends tn the final Cheyne led, 4-3, biit Blackler levelled the score at 5-5 on the eighth end. On the ninth end Cheyne killed the jack, and then played splendidly on the extra end to gain- a three for the win.
