TASMAN CUP
Plans For 1965
Motor racing events at Auckland. Levin, Christchurch and Invercargill will count for the 1965 Tasman Cup, for which cars complying with the existing Tasman formula (engine limit of 2500c.c. run on petrol fuel) will be eligible. This was decided by a meeting of representatives of the Association of New Zealand Car Clubs and the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport—the governing bodies for motor sport in New Zealand and Australia—during a conference held in Christchurch. The secretary of the A.N.Z.C.C. (Mr P. L. Lupp) said that subject to the approval of the F.I.A. the conditions for the Tasman championship in the 1965 season were: Cars eligible will be those complying with the existing Tasman formula. Points will be awarded in accordance with the existing world championship scale.
Events to count towards the award of the Tasman Cup will be the New Zealand Grand Prix at Pukekohe on January 9, 1965; Vic Hudson Memorial at Levin on January 16; Lady Wigram Trophy at Wigram, January 23; and Teretonga International at Invercargill on January 30. Events in Australia will be at Warwick Farm (New South Wales) on February 14, 1965. Sandown Park (Victoria), February 21; and the Australian Grand Prix at Longford (Tasmania) on March 1. Points won at the New Zealand Grand Prix and any other two events in New Zealand, and in all three events in Australia will be used to determine the award.
In 1964 the Tasman Cup was won by New Zealand driver Bruce McLaren with the Australian and former world champion, Jack Brabham, in second place.
