Wool Research Appointment Mr A. ■ Barker has joined the staff of the Wool Research Organisation as chief mechanical engineer. He will be based on the engineering school of Canterbury University where he will be working mainly on the denser baling of wool for export. Mr Barker joined the staff of the organisation about two months ago and has lately been familiarising himself with work done by the Dominion Laboratory on the compression characteristics of various types of wool under various loads.
An Englishman, Mr Barker was involved in the designing of materials handling equipment such as cranes and fork lift trucks and in Britain he also served with the Royal Air Force. He came to New Zealand in 1956 and has been assisting with the implementation of safety regulations with the Department of Labour.
