‘Focus For Premiers’
(A'.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, April 17. Southern Rhodesia could become as much the focus of the July meeting of the
Commonwealth Prime Ministers as the Common Market was in 1962 and South Africa in 1961, “The Times” said today in an editorial. Southern Rhodesia was a matter of “inescapable Commonwealth concern,” it said. Britain had explained the limits of its powers to the United Nations, with many Commonwealth countries dissenting.
“But events are moving fast in Southern Rhodesia and Britain could at any time face eventualities ranging from a declaration of independence to civil strife,” said “The Times.”
